But the Shala and the shared spaces about the property make it a really well-considered retreat venue.
Early mornings on the ‘top deck’ over breakfast or as your group gathers for the day will be highlights. -
Yes, if you want it. There are 9 guest rooms in total.
There is the option to reserve just the Garden Cottage (4 bedrooms) but use of the other communal spaces is then not guaranteed. -
A shared ‘apartment’ that can accommodate up to 3 retreat organisers (with 1 shared bathroom) is offered as standard.
Requests for additional accommodation can be considered. -
The property has a fully staffed kitchen and can provide a mix of Western and Sri Lankan dishes.

Good advance notice is required of any specific dietary requirements. -
For guests sensitive to the occasional bug, this place might not be perfect. It is green, lush and jungly in parts and that comes with visitors.
The property runs right to the ‘lake’ - whose level goes up and down - and sometimes when the level’s low groups gather and there can be noise into the evening.

We hosted our yoga Retreat in Rukgala and had the most incredible experience. Rose went above and beyond to make sure everything ran as smoothly as possible so that we were able to focus on running our sessions with our undivided attention. Everything from the food, to the friendly staff, excursions and activities were amazing. The location is so peaceful, you are really able to escape reality in your own oasis nestled away in the jungle.

I just held a yoga retreat at Rukgala and all I can say is - WOW! It has been one of the best experiences of hosting a retreat I’ve ever had, and this is my 8th retreat or so. The staff are incredibly kind, the food is so nourishing, delicious and authentic, and the rooms and shala are just perfect for a luxurious feeling stay and expansive yoga practices.
