Beautifully preserved historical venue
Heritage, culture and refined luxury
Located on peaceful hill overlooking the historic seaside town, the venue is a beautifully restored vintage residence just a short five-minute walk from the town centre and the beach. Originally built in the 1860s as the home of a Scottish spice merchant and his Sri Lankan wife, the property has been transformed into an intimate boutique hotel filled with character, history, and timeless charm.
Surrounded by lush tropical gardens, the house is celebrated for its elegant design, eclectic collection of artwork, antique furniture, and carefully curated books gathered during the couple’s travels across the world. Today, it continues to reflect their fascinating story, offering guests a unique blend of heritage, culture, and understated luxury.
This retreat venue has eight individually designed sophisticated bedrooms, all show cases it’s very own interesting rich history. All rooms feature spacious living areas, stunning views with timeless style and some have an outdoor bathtub or open showers.
Renowned for its exceptional dining experience, the menu combines vibrant Asian flavours with the rich culinary heritage of the city, using local ingredients and aromatic spices inspired by historic spice trade routes. Every dish and cocktail is thoughtfully crafted to celebrate the spirit of travel, culture, and the timeless beauty of southern Sri Lanka.

Guest comments
“We had a wonderful time staying here. The rooms were gorgeous and monkeys could be seen out many windows. The staff were very kind and when we arrived at night in the rain greeted us with umbrellas. We also enjoyed spending time in the living room and playing cards on a beautiful card table. Would highly recommend!.”

“We absolutely adored our stay here. Our room was immaculate, with a lovely large bed and a beautiful bathroom. The grounds of the hotel are stunning, we love how they have preserved the history of this old building but added comforting touches so you can feel completely relaxed during your stay here. Our breakfast was so delicious we made sure to have dinner in the hotel’s restaurant.”
